Microsoft Service Bus Server Farm availability issue

$

0

We are planning to implement Microsoft Service Bus for windows servers and want to implement Server Farm.

For testing, we configured two win2K8 servers in the Server Farm, these are virtual machines. Server1 hosts the database for Service Bus also and Server2 has only service bus installed. The problem is that if I shutdown Server2, we are not able to connect to Service Bus through Server1.

There are two windows services that run - 1. Service Bus and 2. Service Bus Message Broker. On Server1, "Service Bus" windows service is in Started state however "Service Bus Message Broker" always keeps in Starting state and event log has below error:

Application: Microsoft.ServiceBus.MessageBroker.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The application requested process termination through System.Environment.FailFast(string message). Message: Failed to start Service Bus Broker Service. Stack: at System.Environment.FailFast(System.String, System.Exception) at Microsoft.ServiceBus.MessageBroker.Backend.OnStart(System.String[]

Now if I start Server2, this error goes away and everything runs fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Service Bus 1.0 or 1.1 for windows server and SQL server 2012 always-on

Hey,

Is Servicebus for windows server compatible with SQL server 2012 always-on?

If so a link to this option would be great.

Normally this is just the connectionstring, that would do the tric (and DB coppies) but I can not find this guarantee anywhere...

and what about the retry logic, towards the DB not towards ESB services?

Thx for the reply

Microsoft Service Bus for Windows Server - providing access for sending, receive message on Topic

$

I would like to implement security to restrict some users that can only send message. similar some users should only receive/listen the messages. Below is the code for creating the topic:

                    TopicDescription myTopic = namespaceManager.CreateTopic(DefaultTopicName);
                    myTopic.EnableFilteringMessagesBeforePublishing = true;

                    AuthorizationRule rule = new AllowRule("ServiceBusDefaultNamespace", "nameidentifier", "test.user1@domain", new List<AccessRights>() { AccessRights.Listen, AccessRights.Send, AccessRights.Manage });
                    myTopic.Authorization.Add(rule);

                    rule = new AllowRule("ServiceBusDefaultNamespace", "nameidentifier", "test.user2@domain", new List<AccessRights>() { AccessRights.Listen});
                    myTopic.Authorization.Add(rule);

Topic is created successfully but when subscription the topic from client and listening for message, it gives authentication error for test.user2 user.

Test.user1 has manage rights to the namespace and and service bus. I installed certificate on the client machine after exporting from the server and by using test.user1 it works fine. But if I use test.user2 it does not work and gives error.

Please provide some help on how to resolve the issue and what thing should I check/take care for test.user2.

Thanks in advance

How do you create a SaS Connection using SB 1.1 Preview without using Azure Portal Pack?

$

I have the Connection String setup:

Endpoint=sb://<machineName>/<namespace>;StsEndpoint=https://<machineName>:9355/<namespace>;RuntimePort=9354;ManagementPort=9355;SharedAccessKeyName=RootManageSharedAccessKey;SharedAccessKey=<password>

First off, I have no way to find out what is the Token Passcode it created for RootManageSharedAccessKey. According to article "http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/dn170477.aspx" it says the following:

When a Service Bus namespace is provisioned, a SharedAccessAuthorizationRule, with KeyNameset to RootManageSharedAccessKey, is created by default.

I want to use a SaS Key/KeyName at the Namespace level, not the individual Queue/Topic level.

This leads me to believe that this key name is automatically generated when you provision a new namespace in Service Bus. However, there are no Powershell commands to view this. You can see the PrimarySymetricKey, but that is not the key you need for that. I know I tried, that is used for the namespace setting. I tried to utilize the rest endpoint on the server to maybe see the autorization rule, but get no response from this (the long string is 0's is the subscription Id I get back from Powershell):

https://<serverName>/00000000000000000000000000000000/services/ServiceBus/namespaces/<namespace>/AuthorizationRules/

I need help. Is there any way to do a SaS connection without having to use Active Directory for the token? I thought that was the new feature of SB 1.1, was to utilize SaS rules. Again, I do not want to create a SaS Key/Keyname at the Queue/Topic level, I want to create it at the Namespace level to allow me to create queues, etc through code with manage privileges without having to utilize a AD account.

Not able to access Queue in Service Bus.

When I am trying to access the queue directly in browser from browser I am getting below error.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
-<Error><Code>401</Code><Detail>Manage claim is required for this operation..TrackingId:71a8257b-d4d7-44e8-9c62-bfad04a4ad42_G2,TimeStamp:7/26/2013 11:19:23 AM</Detail></Error>

Could you please let us know how to access the messages in Queue from browser.

Installation problem with Service Bus for Windows Server 1.1 Preview on Windows 8

Hello, I have started to study Service Bus and I want to install Service Bus for Windows Server 1.1 Preview with Web PI.
I have an error during installation but I can't solve it (I have searched online without good result...)

The error is on Microsoft Windows Fabric V1 RTM :

MSI (s) (74:84) [15:36:19:947]: Executing op: CustomActionSchedule(Action=DoFabricSetup,ActionType=3090,Source=C:\Program Files\Windows Fabric\bin\Fabric\Fabric.Code.1.0\MSIHiddenAppLauncher.exe,Target=FabricSetup /operation:install /gac /trace:"C:\ProgramData\Windows Fabric\Fabric\log" /fabricDataRoot:"C:\ProgramData\Windows Fabric\\" /traceBufferSizeInKB:128 /traceFileSizeInMB:128 /fabricPrincipal:"PAOLO-PORTATILE\Paolo",)

I can give you some other information :

My OS is Windows 8 64 bit (I have disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Defender).

The path "C:\Program Files\Windows Fabric\bin\Fabric\Fabric.Code.1.0\MSIHiddenAppLauncher.exe" doesn't exist on my PC.
Under "Fabric" folder I have :
- folder "Fabric.Code.1.0";
- files "Fabric.Package.1.0" and "Fabric.Package.Current"

There isn't "Fabric.Code.1.0"

I have tried to install Windows Fabric manually (following the download links proposed by Web PI) but the installation ends with the same error.
I have read on Internet about a problem with PSModulePath system variable, for my PC its value is "%SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\" and it seems to be right.

Local Service Bus 1.0 Push Mechanism Not working right with WCF listener hosted in IIS (uses AppFabric Auto-Start)

$

We have a WCF service hosted in IIS (meaning it's configured only via web.config) which uses AppFabric auto-start.

The service has a local endpoint that is pointed to a local service bus 1.0 queue/subscription.

Typically it is necessary to browse to the service in order for the first message to be received. Like the service has to be woken up. Normally when this type issue happens with a wcf service, the auto-start feature of AppFabric is suspect, but it's on and working fine.

This same service also has a second endpoint that listens to an Azure hosted queue/subscription.

Both endpoints use the NetMessagingBinding.

The service's 2nd endpoint will receive the first message sent via the Azure queue/topic (as expected) without have to browse to the service to wake it up.

So it's acting as if auto-start is not working, and yet all indications are that auto-start is working (other services are started, there are no error messages emitted by AppFabric, 2nd endpoint of the service works normally).

This happens regardless of whether the service listens to a queue or listens to a subscription and we have it pointed at both during testing.

Messages aren't lost, they remain in the queue/subscription until the service is woken up.

MessageReceiver.Abort does not abort until serverWaitTime has expired (Bug?)

$

Hi,

I'm having an issue with aborting receive operations from Service Bus for Windows Server 1.0. The same issue might occur when running against Azure but I have not tested that yet.

My scenario is this:

I have a receive loop in a separate thread which I start as a task (where I call the Receive method over and over again to get messages). In some cases I want to abort receiving, so then I call the Abort method from another thread.

The issues is that the Receive method doesn't abort in a timely fashion if I call Abort shortly after the Receive method was called. The Receive method continues to run until the serverWaitTime expires (the timeout period provided to the receive method, default 1 min if not specified).

I have created a small reproduction of the issue where I do a Thread.Sleep(...) before calling Abort. In this case the receive operation Aborts quickly after my sleep as expected. However I would prefer not to have a Thread.Sleep since I assume that the time for this delay will vary between different setups. In my scenario about 300ms seemed to be the magic number.

Does anyone have a better solution or workaround to this other than having a Thread.Sleep?

Or could anyone from the Service Bus team comment on this?

Below is a snippet of my reproduction of the issue:

public void TestAbort(string connectionString)
{
    // Some delays I have tried with.
    var tooShortDelay = 100; // With this delay the stop watch shows about 10sec (the specified timeout)
    var delayWhichWorks = 400; // With this delay the stopwatch shows about 400ms

    var messageFactory = MessagingFactory.CreateFromConnectionString(connectionString);
    var namespaceManager = NamespaceManager.CreateFromConnectionString(connectionString);

    var queueName = "MyQueueName";
    if (namespaceManager.QueueExists(queueName))
    {
        namespaceManager.DeleteQueue(queueName);
    }

    namespaceManager.CreateQueue(queueName);

    var queueClient = messageFactory.CreateQueueClient(queueName);
    var stopwatch = Stopwatch.StartNew();

    var task = Task.Run(() => queueClient.Receive(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(10)));

    Thread.Sleep(tooShortDelay);
    queueClient.Abort();
    task.Wait();

    Console.WriteLine("Time to abort receive operation: " + stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds);
    messageFactory.Close();
}

Java: Receive answer from Windows Azure Service Bus Queue

$

Hi,

I'm trying to implement Request Response Queue using Windows Azure Service Bus Queue. I created two queues: Request and Response.

My client side send message to Request queue, then my server side take this message from Request queue, do something and put response into Response Queue. The client side check Response queue if there are any messages. When I run only one client it's working fine.

When I run more then one client, after some time clients side don't pull off any message from Response queue. This queue for sure isn't empty, because client side check how many messages are there.

For receiving message I use:

ReceiveMessageOptions options = ReceiveMessageOptions.DEFAULT;

options.setReceiveMode(ReceiveMode.PEEK_LOCK);

options.setTimeout(20);

ReceiveQueueMessageResult resultQueueMessage = service.receiveQueueMessage(responseQueueName);

BrokeredMessage receivedMessage = resultQueueMessage.getValue();

Any help would be appreciated,

Service Bus for Windows Server: 50002: Provider Internal Error...can create queues but cannot submit to queue

I get 50002: Provider Internal Error when I try to submit a message either thru the simple sample application provided by microsoft or thru the Service Bus Explorer ver 1.8.  I did get it working at one point but the our development machines were updated with microsoft updates and I stopped being able to submit to the queue.

I am on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1

Running SB for Windows Server 1.0 with cumulative update added.

Also on the machine is AppFabric, BizTalk, VS2010 and VS2012.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times, tried different user accounts, checked ports with no success.

Any suggestions as to where I should go from here?  As I said it did work initially, so I know the system is capable of running the service bus.

WSB on prem - future versions and backwards compatibility

Hi,

I am thinking about implementing WSB 1.0 on prem at our company.

If I my clients and consumers connect to the Bus using tcp and therefore require Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll reference.   What happens when a new version of the Service Bus is released and I upgrade my central bus?  Will my existing clients and consumers still work and still be able to publish and listen via the old dll?   Or will I need to upgrade everything in one hit, and retest everything!

Thanks

Priority Queue and Ordering of Messages

$
0
0

I have following scenario
There are 10 messages (M1..M10) to process, priority of messages are  (Priority 1 - 3, 1 = high, 2= medium, 3 = low), each message results in an action (say an phone activation, deactivate phone, bill notification for sake of it, identified here as A= activate, D = deactivate, B= Bill-ready and each message have a receiver address / phone number where message will be sent ultimately)

Each Priority have its own queue to avoid pileup of messages (say 100000 D messages in front of 100 A messages may result into slowness of P1 message going out)
Message number -> Message Type -> Priority -> receiver phone mapping is as below

Msg -> Type - > Pri -> email
M1 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address1
M2 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address2
M3 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address3
M4 ->  B    - > (P2) -> address1
M5 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address4
M6 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address5
M7 ->  D    - > (P3) -> address6
M8 ->  D    - > (P3) -> address1
M9 ->  A    - > (P1) -> address2
M10->  B    - > (P2) -> address1

As you may notice, there are messages that are intended for a phone number in different priority order, Address 1 have P1, P2 and P3 messages
Is it possible to control locking and ordering of messages,

scenario is that I want to only send P2 message for a phone number once P1 message is processed, even if I scale out and increase my processor roles (in your diagram sub)I dont want to start processing messages out of order.

Is it something that Azure Queue / Service bus support or have a library that have methods for it, I can see that it was an huge issue with MSMQ and had an adverse effect on performance (coz it was not supported out of the box and to do what i am mentioning you were pretty much had to lock a record loop through entire queue to see if there are more messages for this phone number in the queue and figure out ordering on your own, huge performance hit)

Any help is highly appreciated

20 minute STS Token Timeout - Proxy Usage - WCF Client causes STS to use proxy

Service Bus 1.0 installed locally on the same machine

- using DNS based namespaces

- DNS entry in HOSTs file

- Valid certificate for DNS entry

All works great - connections created / listening on queues... (requires session) - so times out after N minutes...

THEN : code executes a WCF client -> invokes a call to a server residing outside our network -> so it goes through the proxy...

---> then N minutes later -> when the STS token times out -> I get -

MessagingException: The token provider service was not avaliable when obtaining a token for .... ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (502) Bad Gateway.

restart the app domain and all is well until the WCF client makes a call...????? why is STS using the proxy for local addresses?

Service Bus Relay Issues

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone here can help with a issue that has recently started troubling us.
We have been happily using the Service Bus for relay connections for around 6 months now.

The program using this, a Windows service connects out to the Azure ServiceBus.Windows.Net
and sets up its relay.

Up until recently this was all working great and literally hundreds of users have been happily using the service.
Though for a few weeks now we have been getting 2 primary errors popping up.

Our connection mode is set to Http, as this is what would serve us best.

1: When connecting through a Http Web Proxy, we get errors saying that it was unable to connect to NameSapce.ServiceBus.Window.Net, further looking into the errors we see that it says could not create upstream and could not create downstream. It also says that a secure connection cannot be established in some cases.

2: Another error we are getting is the following error
The X.509 certificate CN=servicebus.windows.net, OU=WindowsAzure, O=Microsoft, L=Redmond, S=WA, C=US is not in the trusted people store. The X.509 certificate CN=servicebus.windows.net, OU=WindowsAzure, O=Microsoft, L=Redmond, S=WA, C=US chain building failed. The certificate that was used has a trust chain that cannot be verified. Replace the certificate or change the certificateValidationMode. A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.

We have had a look at most of the posts surrounding similar issues, but have been unable to resolve this issue.
We have sat with various IT departments to see if there is possibly issues with us authenticating with the proxy, but this was found not to be the issue.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Louis

Relay Service with basicHttpBinding

Hi all,

I have a relay service hosted in a console application. My config file has the following endpoints

<service name="Demo.BizTalkAzure.Services.ProductsService"><endpoint address="https://mynamespace.servicebus.windows.net/ConsultaProductos/ServicioProductos.svc"
          behaviorConfiguration="Behavior1" binding="basicHttpRelayBinding"
          bindingConfiguration="basicHttpRelayEndpointConfig" name="enpoint1"
          contract="Demo.BizTalkAzure.Services.IProductService" /><endpoint address="https://mynamespace.servicebus.windows.net/ConsultaProductos/ServicioProductos.svc_mex"
          behaviorConfiguration="BehaviorMex1" binding="ws2007HttpRelayBinding"          bindingConfiguration="endpointconfig1" name="endpointMEX1"
          contract="IMetadataExchange" /></service>

As you can see in the endpoints, I'm using basicHttpRelayBinding and ws2007HttpRelayBinding. Nevertheless when I go to the azure console it shows me both relays, but with TCPRelay.

 anyone out there knows why?

Thanks in advance

What maintenance should be done on the sql server instance housing Local Service Bus?

$

The sql instance hosting local service bus has a log file (SBMessageContainer01_log.ldf) that is suddenly consuming 40GB of drive space. It consumed all available drive space.

Also, reviewing the tables in the SBMessageContainer01 database shows most tables have a reasonable number of entries, but two tables have very high numbers of entries (BodiesTable and MessageReferencesTable).

What SQL maintenance should be performed to keep the database size down and the log low?

Hi Everyone,

I have a website that interacts with a multi-tiered Windows Azure application. I would like the website to update in response to asynchronous processes in some Azure worker roles. I was hoping to use push notifications to let the website know when and how to update. There are great tutorials for using the Windows Azure Notification Hub with iOS, Android, and Windows 8. Can anyone point me to the right place to learn how to use it with a HTML5 site?

Thanks!
